About Us
The Evolution of a Practice
Delta Oncology Associates consists of Delta Hematology/Oncology Associates and Delta Surgical Oncology/The Breast Care Center. We strive to make a difference in the lives of our cancer patients and are dedicated to eradicating cancer from our society.
The practice was formed in 1993 with the purchase of a medical oncology practice in Chesapeake. Since then Delta has expanded to five physicians and four offices. Delta Hematology/Oncology Associates and Delta Surgical Oncology/The Breast Care Center have offices located in Portsmouth, at 355 Crawford Street, Chesapeake, at 612 Kingsborough Square. Delta Hematology/Oncology has an office in Suffolk at 104 Palmyra Drive.
The Lab and Infusion Center
Delta Hematology/Oncology Associates has its own lab and infusion center. When a patient comes to Delta, it is one stop from diagnosis to treatment. Lab results are read and interpreted, so the patient does not have to go to another site or wait days before beginning treatment.
The Breast Care Center
The Breast Care Center provides screening and diagnostic services in the treatment of breast disease. Mammography, Ultrasound Stereotactic Biopsy, diagnosis and treatment are offered at this one convenient location. Your patient also benefits from the diagnostic innovations offered by the practice. For example, patients are able to have a stereotactic biopsy done as an office procedure, avoiding a trip to the hospital and an open surgical biopsy. Dr. Chang also performs sentinel lymph node biopsies to diagnose the extent to which a cancer has metastasized. Patients are spared the harmful side effects associated with the excision of numerous lymph nodes.
The goal of The Breast Care Center is to educate your patient, so that she is a participant in the treatment decisions. Our caring staff helps your patient feel comfortable by spending time with her and answering all of her questions.
Committed to Research
At Delta Oncology, we make it a priority to remain on the forefront of the latest advances in cancer treatment. We focus on enhancing the quality of care and making new treatments available to the community.
Dr. Lloyd A. Shabazz leads a group of physicians committed to cancer research. He has vast experience in clinical trials and has introduced 17 innovative research protocols to the practice. This research has significantly increased awareness of the practice and generated an influx of statewide referrals, as well as referrals from out of state.
Dr. Shabazz is a clinician investigator with an active affiliation with the National Cancer Institute. As an investigator, he initiates studies and writes new treatment protocols. His patients have been involved with NCI protocols, industry sponsored protocols, as well as Investigator initiated Group research protocols.
Our physicians are committed to continuing and expanding our participation in protocols. Progress in the battle against cancer will only come with more research, particularly against those cancers that are difficult to treat, such as ovarian and prostate cancers. In addition to research, the need for cancer prevention education and screening options is great. It is our mission to educate the public through community lectures.
